Ba Nyein, U

   (1914- )
Civilian economist, advisor to Brigadier Tin Pe, and a theorist behind the "Burmese Road to Socialism," appointed to the Revolutionary Council in 1971. The following year, he became minister of cooperatives. His influence over policy began to decline by the mid-1970s, however. Amid growing demands for some kind of reform, he was obliged to resign from the central committee of the Burma Socialist Programme Party at its Third Congress in February 1977.
